Every year, during the fifth month of the Tibetan calendar (late June or early July), the historic Hemis Monastery in Ladakh comes alive with vibrant celebrations.
The Hemis Festival is one of the most important Buddhist festivals and is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), believed to be an incarnation of Lord Buddha and credited with spreading Buddhism in Ladakh and Tibet.
