Thrissur Pooram is a grand Kerala festival held in April–May at Vadakkunnathan Temple in Thrissur. n It features beautifully decorated elephants, vibrant umbrella displays (Kudamattam), and powerful percussion performances like Ilanjithara Melam, ending with a spectacular fireworks show.
The festival is organized around two main temple groups—the Paramekkavu group and the Thiruvambadi group—which compete by exchanging colorful ceremonial umbrellas atop caparisoned elephants. The celebrations conclude with a breathtaking, hours-long fireworks display at night.
